Personal Statement
Progression Task 1:
Why are you interested in your chosen career path?
I am interested in the chosen pathway because I have always been fascinated with how worlds are created and expanded upon. I feel that working in this career would help me grow my potential by being able to explore ideas that I have developed over my time working with various software.
What makes it interesting to you?
The majority of my interest comes from the satisfaction that can come from creating a world where the characters and environments blend perfectly. I also enjoy seeing how that world works from a mechanical standpoint, seeing how a storyline can be developed from choices or how the game scales its difficulty to keep players engaged and attentive to what happens in the world around them.
Why do you think you're suitable for this career path?
I believe that this is a suitable career path for me from my enthusiasm to see the projects that I have started to be finished, and my wish to utilise all of the knowledge that I have accumulated to create a world to the highest possible quality and detail. I also have the ability to know when something I am working on is coming too off-the-rails, preventing me from wasting time that may cause issues for other departments that may be relying on me to complete a specific task quickly.
Do your current or previous studies relate to the career path you have chosen?
My current studies (IMGL3) and my previous course (IMGL2) will, in my personal opinion, will lend a great deal to my chosen career path due to them containing a vast range of learnable skills, from the use of unity to how to properly create a professional online presence. This will allow me to have a standard understanding in every field and to help me expand my knowledge of the industry as a whole.
Have you taken part in any other activities that demonstrate your interest in the career path?
I and a few other IMG students have begun sessions of Dungeons & Dragons to help us can a better understanding of character development, game balancing as well as world-building. I have also been taking part in an online roleplaying sever on a game called Garry’s Mod to assist in the character development from a first-person standpoint, this also helps when attempting to insert a story into an already established lore/plot.
Employers/universities like to know the skills you have that will help you. List these skills here and any supporting evidence to back them up.
I have an understanding of working with multiple people from different areas to create one thing, this is evidenced by my time working as a welder due to the fact that I have worked with people from many different fields to create new machines or maintain old ones. This also shows my ability to work within a time-sensitive environment as we would usually have to complete these by a certain date. Moreover, my employment extended employment shows that I have a high understanding of how to act appropriately in a work-based setting as well as being able to have a professional and non-controversial relationship with my fellow co-workers.
Include any other achievements you’re proud of, positions of responsibility that you hold, or have held both in and out of school, and attributes that make you interesting, special, or unique.
I have spent two years as a student representative which shows my dedication to roles that can help support my fellow students or co-workers. I have also worked as a bartender at multiple events which also shows that I can work in environments that can be hectic and unpredictable for extended periods of time.
Include details of jobs, placements, work experience, or voluntary work, particularly if it's relevant to your field. Try to link any experience to skills or qualities related to the career path.
If you know what you’d like to do after finishing within education, explain how you want to use the knowledge and experience that you have gained.
After I’ve finished with my education I would like to progress into employment as a videogame designer for a company or, if that falls through, as an independent developer until I am able to seek further employment. whilst searching for employment I would most likely continue working as hired help at a welding firm to show my dedication to progression in my chosen field.

Progression Task 3:
I am interested in the chosen pathway because I have always been fascinated with how worlds are created and expanded upon. I feel that working in this career would help me grow my potential by being able to explore ideas that I have developed over my time working with various pieces of software.
Much of my interest comes from the satisfaction of the world where the characters and environments blend perfectly. I also enjoy seeing how that world works from a mechanical standpoint, seeing how a storyline can be developed from choices or how the game scales its difficulty to keep players engaged and attentive to what happens in the world around them. This is known as the Sequential Theory where decisions made can cause an effect on later gameplay options.
I believe that this is a suitable career path for me from my enthusiasm to see the projects that I have started to be finished, and my wish to utilise all the knowledge that I have accumulated to complete a task to the highest possible quality and detail. I also have the ability to know when something I am working on is coming too off-the-rails, preventing me from wasting time that may cause issues for other departments that may be relying on me to complete a specific task quickly. This also encourages me to hone my abilities when it comes to trial and error as well as giving me more time to work on constructive feedback.
My current studies (Interactive Media and Games Level 3) and my previous course (Interactive Media Games Level 2) will, in my personal opinion, lend a great deal to my chosen career path due to them containing a vast range of learnable skills, from the use of Unity, pixel art, working effectively as a team as well as how to properly create a professional online presence. This will allow me to have a standard understanding in every field and to help me expand my knowledge of the industry as a whole.
