
Level Design
History:
like most artistic fields, level design did not appear in video games until 1983 with the creation of Lode Runner (Broderbund Software, 1983) which was the first game to accredit a Level designer; Douglas E. Smith. It was said in a 2010 interview of game designer John Romero that Smith input the level editor feature at the request of some kids that he had playtesting the game and later on paid them to help design levels for him.

Sid Meier

Shigeru Miyamoto
Sid Meier is most well known for the series named after himself; Sid Meier's Civilization (Microprose, 1991). In the early years of his career, Meier work as the level designer for Spitfire Ace (Microprose) in 1982 as well as the level designer for Floyd of The Jungle (MicroProse) which was created in 1982 (Meier, S.).

Miyamoto was the mind behind video game classics like Donkey Kong (Nintendo, 1981), Super Mario Bros (Nintendo, 1983). and The Legend Of Zelda (Nintendo, 1986). Miyamoto created the original levels and the look for the Super Mario Bros and was at the forefront of the games industry during the early 1980s (Miyamoto, S.).
